  • In the September 2017 issue of Practicing Dermatology, the section titled “Therapeutic Focus: Fungal Infections” is subtitled “Nitric Oxide-Releasing Nanoparticles for Skin Infections”; the article discusses Dr. Adam Friedman’s work demonstrating that topically applied nitric oxide-releasing nanoparticles (“NO-np”) are a viable treatment for deep fungal infections of the skin caused by dermatophytes (fungi). Specifically, in an animal model, Friedman’s research team found that NO-np facilitated a quicker, more impactful response to treatment over the commercially available topical terbinafine, showing 95 percent infection clearance by the third day of treatment.
